ITDC would like expand its existing beadwork training course and establish a beadwork training centre where both men and women will be taught traditional Xhosa designs and techniques, and modern day patterns and styles. An integral part of the centre, will be a shop where beadwork products are sold and where tourists visiting the area can buy curios and mementos. We would also like to establish a mobile training unit that will deliver beadwork courses to rural villages in the Eastern Cape. Rural villages are very impoverished and people find it very difficult, if not impossible, to travel to cities to attend training sessions. There is then also the added expense of accommodation. By holding training workshops in their village, participation and good attendance is guaranteed. Izinto Zimveli is calling on corporates and other funders (especially overseas funders) to support our initiative - we are looking for donations to purchase a bakkie/4 x 4 or other LDV that will be used to transport our trainer to rural villages, where the roads are sometimes no more than two tracks in the veld. We would also like to embark on a research project that will investigate and document the techniques that Xhosa beaders are presently using, what styles, patterns and techniques where used in the past and how new materials are being integrated in their current beadwork. If you would like to support our initiatives, please contact us at the following numbers: P
